It’s been a long cold week at Little Green Book HQ and whilst we’ve been sheltering from the storms sweeping through the U.K we caught up with Sian Bowron, Sustainable Wedding Planner and founder of Amethyst Weddings; where she helps eco conscious couples create their dream ethical weddings.
Have a read through our chat and get inspired to adopt eco friendly methods in your next event.
What inspired you to be a wedding planner?
I’ve always seen weddings as a really romantic event, the joining together of two lives just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. This is my ideal job and I can’t imagine doing anything else. I’m a hopeless romantic.

What are your top tips for planning an eco-friendly wedding?
1) Stay local – avoid unnecessary travel and choose a venue near home.
2) Ensure your caterer or venue sources local seasonal produce.
3) Ensure any décor is either preloved, reusable or compostable, I think it’s always more cost affective to hire any décor.
Which are your favourite 3 Instagram accounts for brides to be to get sustainable wedding Inspo (not including us!) ?
I’ve found some great ideas and inspiration by following #ecofriendlyweddings and #sustainableweddings. Australia and some states in the USA are way ahead of the UK with eco and sustainable weddings. You’ll find some great venue and décor inspiration as well as amazing ideas for vegan wedding food.
What is your best advice for a couple who have just started their wedding planning journey?
I would always suggest you both write a list about what you envisage your wedding day being, then compare them and talk through your priorities.
Aside from planning weddings, what do you love to do in your spare time?
I love to relax and spend time with the family. One of my guilty pleasures is musical theatre so I love to go to the theatre or simply watch The Greatest Showman over and over again on DVD.
What is your favourite eco-friendly life hack?
I reduce our plastic waste at home by using a local company that supply household products that you put in your own bottles.
We couldn’t agree with Sian more on the importance of picking suppliers who don’t just fit your style, but also your values. If, like us, you care about sustainability then have a browse through our suppliers here to find your perfect fit.
