Hello I’m Clare, owner and designer at Clare Gray Designs. I am based in the beautiful city of Cambridge, UK

I love our planet! I worry all the time about climate change, and the impact my little stationery business could have on the world, so I work hard to make sure I don’t add to the climate crisis. I do my research to source sustainably made plastic-free materials, to find eco friendly printing methods, and to reduce and reuse materials as much as possible. When you order from me, you can be sure that I have carefully considered the environmental impact of everything I do.

I designed my custom wedding suites with a range of styles and wedding budgets in mind and I think they are all beautiful. But my favorite thing is working with couples to design bespoke stationery exclusively for their special day, its so exciting to have a new design challenge. I seem to work a lot with brides, so I love it when the groom gets involved too. I often find my best designs are created out of face-to-face meetings with my lovely couples. There’s nothing better than seeing your faces light up when I show you an idea that you both love.

FAQs

Q WHEN SHOULD I ORDER MY INVITATIONS?

It’s never too early to get in touch, I can pop you in the diary and catch up with you in a few months if you’re not ready to order just yet, or I can put a rush on your order and get them to you last minute if you’ve left things a bit late.

Ideally I need two weeks to design, two to three weeks to print/ship an order, so it’s best to get in touch at least five weeks before you want your invitations to go out. But if you need something printing more urgently than that - I can usually make it work.

Q WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY A DEPOSIT FOR MY STATIONERY UP FRONT?

Before I start working on editing one of my customisable suits for you, or working on a bespoke order, I take a 50% deposit, or a bespoke design fee. This covers my time, materials and design expertise, and without this payment, I can’t start your invites. Once a final design is agreed, I take a final payment of the outstanding amount before going to print. Why? Because it takes time to produce hand calligraphy, to consult with you and design proofs for approval, it costs money to print your designs, and sadly, I’ve been burned before. So payment upfront is how I do things now, because this is how I earn a living, this is how I pay the bills, this is how I feed the cat!

Q DO YOU PRINT THE STATIONERY IN HOUSE?

I produce some smaller items like some menus and place cards in house, and all of my hand lettered calligraphy is done in house. But I outsource the printing and foiling of all of my stationery suites to my trusted printing partners who print and foil my designs at the highest quality. My great relationship with our printing partners means that you can trust that your designs are in good hands, and will be printed promptly and returned to me for finishing/assembly before they make their way to you. I would love to print more of my designs in house, but the equipment required is highly specialist and very expensive to buy and run, and sadly there isn’t enough room in my little attic office… one day!
